Dead Man Walking by dark-amaya Dead Man Walking by dark-amaya
This is the Jarrell Texas tornado of May 27, 1997 that killed 27 people. It was rated as a F5 on the Fujita scale and wiped out the entire subdivision of homes.

This picture is of an Native American legend....'dead man walking'.

If anyone were to see the dead man or see this tornado approach them they are about to die. Fortunatly, the photographer for this picture was not hurt, but 27 other people were not so lucky.

Lesson....Tornadoes are bad. Don't stare at them....RUN! :sprint:

I've always wanted to find the origin of the "Dead Man Walking" legend, but to this day I have yet to find where it came from beyond a tornado documentary.

Wow, really does look like the silhouette of a walking man! Guess that gives a whole new meaning to the nickname "The Finger of God" when referencing F5's.

I'm a tornado chaser. I don't run from them, they run from me. ;)

Beautiful storm! Sucks that they're so deadly.

I remember seeing in a book at my old school (which is torn down) and it said that a tornado can go up to an F7, I think that's what it said.
dark-amaya Featured By Owner Oct 24, 2011
No a tornado can only go up to an EF5 on the enhance Fujita scale...the highest wind speed ever recorded in a tornado was 300+mph which is possibly the fastest wind speed ever recorded in the lower atmosphere.
Pretty cool right?

As someone who was in the path of a tornado a little under a month ago, I can honestly say that this is one of the most terrifying things I have ever seen.

Acorn83 Featured By Owner Feb 21, 2011
This isn't manipulated at all?
gethsemane-butler Featured By Owner May 25, 2011
No, it's actually a real phenomenon. In a large tornado (they're usually at least 1.5 miles wide) like that there are actually several smaller twisters swirling around each other (it's just hard to see because of all the debris flying around). So when the debris clears a little like in the picture, the twisters swirling around actually look like legs, and it looks like the tornado is "walking" along. When you have a "dead man walking" tornado like this, it's usually a F5, and the chances of anything surviving intact is slim to none.

I can see why they're called that. They're even creepier than regular tornadoes - which already take the cake when it comes to "creepiness." O__O

I've heard the legend, and I've seen the video, and I used to have nightmares about it. Luckily that was a long time ago, and I'm nice and happy now. I'm glad I found this image.

People keep blaming everything on God. We have forgotten there are two kinds of spiritual forces. Satan is the "god of this world". He and evil spirits cause death and destruction. This is probably what the Bible talks about as a "Destroying spirit". We need to learn spiritual discernment!

Satan is the creation of an all powerful, all knowing God. Satan literally was designed by a God that cannot by definition make mistakes in order to rain misery upon the world of man for all eternity so of course anything and everything Satan does is God's deliberate will and intent.

It's a bit like arguing you shouldn't blame the guy who made the bomb, planted it in the school bus and detonated it with his cell phone for all the kids who died that day and instead blame the bomb.
